These students have already completed a full year of 8th-grade science. Semester 1 therefore returns to the physical science core (MS-PS standards) at an accelerated pace and with greater depth—explicitly closing remaining conceptual gaps while introducing the quantitative reasoning, data analysis, and laboratory practices that high-school courses will demand. Semester 2 shifts focus to establish the essential vocabulary, core concepts, and scientific practices needed for success in high-school Biology, the most common 9th-grade science course.
